These creatures, with their sharp spines, can pose a risk to unwary swimmers. Keep your eye out so you can avoid touching or stepping on the sea urchins to prevent painful injuries. Piñones

Some of the shorter spots are 5-7 feet but there are some that have to be at least 25 feet! Charco Azul invites you to cool off and immerse yourself by saying “jump in, have fun!” There is paid parking provided by a friendly local at the top of the hill but there are free spots to park on the steep hill.
Charco Prieto
Located in Bayamon, this is an easily accessible hike if you have some form of personal transportation and some grippy shoes. Charco Prieto offers visitors a serene oasis after a short, medium difficulty hike. This secluded swimming hole invites adventurers to take a refreshing dip in its crystal-clear waters and maybe stay still long enough for fish to nibble on your toes. The ferry to Vieques is an essential transportation link for travelers looking to explore this captivating island. It departs from Ceiba, a town on the eastern coast of Puerto Rico. The ferry offers a cost-effective ride to the island with it being less than $3 each way. The ferry ride typically takes around 60 to 90 minutes. While reservations are not required for foot passengers, it’s advisable to arrive early, especially during peak travel times. The ferry schedule may vary, so it’s recommended to check the latest departure times and any updates before planning your trip.
El Yunque
El Yunque National Forest, situated in eastern Puerto Rico, is a lush and biodiverse paradise. Hikers can traverse a network of over 29 miles of scenic trails that lead to cascading waterfalls, panoramic viewpoints, and dense tropical rainforests teeming with wildlife. As the sole tropical rainforest within the United States National Forest System, El Yunque is the most easily accessible tropical rainforest for US citizens. There are about 20 named waterfalls in El Yunque. That’s one-third of the waterfalls on the island. You don’t need a pass to enter but you may need some good shoes and a willingness to get dirty! Although this is a short paragraph, There are countless ways you can enjoy El Yunque.
Las Paylas
Also in El Yunque, but deserving its own spot is Las Paylas. The natural waterslide had its smooth rock formations sculpted by centuries of flowing water. Visitors can slide down these naturally polished rocks, propelled by the gentle current, and plunge into the clear pools below. The cool, refreshing waters provide a welcome respite from the tropical heat, making Las Paylas a spot for adventure junkies and those wanting to cool off in the additional pools and cascading waterfalls. Visitors can swim, sunbathe on the rocks, or simply bask in the beauty of nature while listening to the soothing sounds of cascading water.
With it being a moderate hike in a wet environment, use extra caution as there have sadly been deaths here. Visitors should exercise caution when sliding down the rocks and swimming in the pools, as the water conditions may vary and rocks can be slippery. Never go near or enter waterways when rain is forecasted. Flashfloods are no joke. One way to check if conditions are safe is to look at small standing water sources. If they’re clear, it means water current and levels should be normal. If its brown, there has been a fair bit of rain and water currents will be unpredictable.
With that being said, Las Paylas offers a unique and unforgettable experience for those seeking adventure and tranquility in the heart of El Yunque. It’s a must-visit destination for anyone exploring the natural wonders of Puerto Rico.
Central
This is a smaller section as the center of the island is a bit harder to reach, especially for travelers with no car. However there is still a special place in this section.
Cañon de Tanamá
This Canyon, cave, and river system offers an adrenaline-packed escape amidst towering limestone cliffs and crystal-clear waters, perfect for thrill-seekers and nature lovers alike. What activities you can dive into? River tubing, hiking, rappelling, and even cave exploration are on the list of things to do here. Seeking a chill day out? No worries – there are plenty of options like gentle river tubing excursions and easy hikes. Of course with this being such a natural playground, always exercise caution and common sense. Playuela Beach
Also known as Playa Sucia, this is a pristine beach near the Cabo Rojo Lighthouse. This spot is the place to chill. It’s a secluded beach thats renowned for its soft white sand, clear turquoise waters, and natural beauty. Playa Sucia is a favorite spot among locals and visitors alike for swimming, sunbathing, as well as an amazing spot to watch sunrises and sunsets that paint the sky in brilliant hues of orange and pink. The beach is relatively undeveloped, with no amenities or facilities, making it the perfect spot for those seeking a peaceful beach experience.
Cabo Rojo
This is a municipality located on the southwestern tip of Puerto Rico, known for its natural landscapes, historic sites, and culture. One of the most iconic landmarks in Cabo Rojo is the Cabo Rojo Lighthouse, also known as the Faro Los Morrillos de Cabo Rojo. The Camuy Caves
Cavernas del Río Camuy, are one of Puerto Rico’s most impressive natural wonders. Carved out over millions of years by the Camuy River, these vast underground caverns form one of the largest cave systems in the Western Hemisphere. The caves are located near the town of Camuy, in the central part of Puerto Rico, and are part of the Parque Nacional de las Cavernas del Río Camuy.
